The function of the belt pulley, also known as torsional vibration damper, is to reduce rotational irregularities and vibrations of the crankshaft which occur during the combustion cycle.

Worn torsional vibration dampers can lead to increased engine noise and vibration, which can have an enormous impact on driving comfort. When torsional vibration dampers are checked regularly for wear, proper functioning is maintained and counteracts the increased wear on the V-ribbed belt, belt tensioner and generator freewheel.

This prevents premature malfunctions and even a major engine damage.
